Sedation is chosen for your needs
Available options may include oral or IV sedation when appropriate. Your medical history, medications, the planned treatment, and clinical assessment determine the suitable approach. Sedation does not replace the local anesthetic used to numb the treatment area.
Planning before the appointment
Sedation may need a separate assessment and advance arrangements. We give you specific instructions about eating and drinking, medications, and a responsible adult escort. Do not change prescribed medications unless your treating clinician instructs you to.
After your visit
Follow the recovery instructions and restrictions provided for your sedation. Arrange the escort and support we recommend, and do not drive yourself when your sedation plan requires someone else to take you home.

Not necessarily. The level of sedation and what you may remember depend on the method used and your response. We explain what to expect before you choose treatment.
Can sedation be arranged for an urgent visit?
